Is it possible to create a portrait of Nîmes as it was in Antiquity? Can we bring the ancient city back to life along with its environment, monuments, streets and inhabitants? This is one of the great challenges of archaeology and architecture: to provide people with a chance to travel back in time and be plunged into a reproduction of Antiquity, where the scientific findings and hypotheses have been respected to the letter. This is the challenge that Jean-Claude Golvin, architect and archaeologist, has devoted his life to. Today, the Musée de la Romanité is showcasing the results of this work carried out over the years, the remarkable watercolours that provide a rare opportunity to step inside his world where history, archaeology, scientific knowledge and artistic talent all come together.
