By Jean-Yves Breuil, assistant science & technology director at Inrap Midi-Méditereranée and operations manager for the Jean-Jaurès car park excavations
The exceptional excavations at Jean-Jaurès car park in Nîmes have uncovered an extremely well-conserved district of the ancient city of Nemausus, with cobblestone streets, fountains, craft studios and luxurious mansions. Its wall paintings and mosaics illustrate stories from Greco-Roman mythology, including the tragedy of Ulysses’ discovery of Achilles in Skyros.
