Luernos is a survivor. He was on an expedition north of the Danube, in the Dacian territory, but things didn’t go as planned and the retreat was disastrous. 15 years later, he returned to Dacia. He was a member of the equites singulares, bodyguards for the Emperor and his general staff. That’s when he ran into Hadrian, who would one day become Emperor Trajan’s adoptive son and successor.
