  • The Jardins de la Fontaine

It was right here in the Jardins de la Fontaine that the history of Nîmes began, at the foot of the source, believed to be sacred by the Volcae Arecomici Gallic tribe, long before the Romans arrived. The garden was redeveloped in the 18th century by Jacques Philippe Mareshal into a French-style garden, and is the result of an adaptation of his design based on the ruins of the ancient Augusteum, the sanctuary devoted to the imperial cult.
